We commence the course with a warm-up session to “break the ice” and to encourage good posture, breathing, listening and communication. We move on to full and sectional orchestral rehearsals as well as varied complementary activities including singing, group improvisation/composition, solo “masterclasses”, and art & craft. The course ends with a short informal concert giving a favour of the things we have worked on.

“If you need a place to express your music feelings, ESO Youth is that place.”

– Eddie (violin)

We try to choose music to suit the unique make-up of the orchestra on each workshop. We aim to provide a variety of musical genres from the Baroque through to jazz and film music, and have been fortunate enough in the past to have had pieces written specially for us.

“The ESO Team has supported my daughter through her journey from Beginners to Intermediate Orchestra with enthusiasm and motivation at every turn.”

– Jo, ESO Youth Parent

There are 4-5 tutors on each course, one covering each section of the orchestra. The tutors are all core members of the ESO (DBS checked) and bring their own ideas on how to inspire the children who attend.

COVID protocols including social distancing and protective screens will be tailored specifically to this event. We will require a health declaration form to be filled in at registration. We would also take temperature readings with a non-contact thermometer (not mandatory).
