We are very sorry that, due to circumstances beyond our control, this concert has been cancelled. Mr. Nicholas Daniel has graciously agreed to re-schedule his appearance with the ESO to 9 March, 2019 in Malvern Priory, and if you have bought a ticket for this concert, it will of course be exchanged for one for the new programme. Purchasers can contact the ESO on firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 01905 29349 to request a refund or to re-book.
Again, we are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.
No orchestra before or since has done as much to celebrate the string music of Great Britain as the English String Orchestra, whose discography of over 80 CDs is full of first recordings of countless British works. This concert celebrates that legacy with two of Vaughan Williams’ greatest works for strings, his deeply touching Oboe Concerto and his haunting Tallis Fantasia. The concert also includes a new arrangement by our very own Kenneth Woods, of Doreen Carwithen’s moving Adagio from her First String Quartet and David Matthews Variations for Strings, a work inspired by the music of Bach.
This concert is part of “David Matthews in the Heart of England“, a year-long celebration of this great British composer on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
