Fantasia

Fantasia is the name for a day of education and performance in Gloucester Cathedral which will bring together children of all abilities from around the county to play alongside the ESO Symphony Orchestra.

Summary

Fantasia will consist of a series of events and rehearsals that climax in a concert in the Cathedral on Saturday 18th October 2008. It will feature 200 young musicians from local choirs and youth orchestras, each with their own part to play in the concert.

Music

The concert is a celebration of the British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, who died 50 years ago and was very closely associated with Gloucester and its Cathedral. At the heart of the concert is a performance of his "Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis", which will be conducted by Vernon Handley, who last year won a Classical Brit Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to British music.

More details will appear on this page as they become available.
